The Upper Rhine stands out as one of Europe's top-performing regions, thanks to Strasbourg, Basel, Karlsruhe, and Freiburg im Breisgau.

The Upper Rhine economy is unique, generating a GDP of €291 billion, comparable to that of Hungary or Portugal.

Land area
Covering an area of around 22,000 km², comparable to that of Slovenia, the Upper Rhine region stretches on both sides of the Rhine, Europe’s central river.
The Upper Rhine is twice as large as Île-de-France (21,500 km² compared with 12,011 km²)
Borders
The Upper Rhine area has a perimeter of 1,590 km and includes 440 km of internal borders.
